Let’s go surfing now:The Noosa Festival of Surfing gets under way tomorrow, March 12, with nine days of pro, amateur and specialty events in longboarding and stand-up paddling. Legendary world champion surfers will take part in the Breakfree South Pacific Corporate Cup and dinner on Saturday, March 12. Entertainment out of the water includes music and movie events, exhibitions, barefoot ball, memorabilia auction and The Bobby Brown Exhibition at the Golden Breed Store in Hastings Street.

Aussie Bum: Coolum Beach Surf Club will host the finals of the Aussie Bums Surf Boat series this Saturday, March 12, 8am to 4pm. Stay on at the club for live music from Jay C Rider Duo from 9pm. The finals of the Best of the Best Surfboats will be held on Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Live music on the deck will be from David Flower, from 2-6pm.

Going green: There’ll be plenty of St Patrick’s Day celebrations around Noosa next Thursday, March 17. The Famous Jimmies who blend jazz and African rhythm with traditional Irish tunes will perform at Trio’s on the River from 6.30pm. Cost is $60 for a three-course meal and entertainment – book on 07 5474 4799. River Cottage Restaurant’s St Patrick’s Day degustation menu costs $70 for 5 courses – green clothing optional.
